چکیده

The smoothing procedure has been introduced by Schh onauer as an acceleration algorithm for the Generalized Conjugate Gradient methods. In this paper, after giving our deenition of Conjugate Gradient type methods, and using a Generalized Hessenberg process, we introduce a Hybrid generalized Conjugate Gradient type method. We show that this Hybrid procedure is a variable smoothing procedure. And as particular case of our result, we show that the QMR method can be obtained as a variable smoothing procedure applied to BCG method. Other methods like GMRES are also treated.

Multigrid on the interface for mortar mixed ®nite element methods for elliptic problems

We consider mixed ®nite element approximations of second order elliptic equations on domains that can be described as a union of subdomains or blocks. Specially chosen mortar ®nite element spaces are introduced on the interfaces for approximating the scalar variable (pressure). The mortars also...

An Engineering Approach to Generalized Conjugategradient

This is an elementary introductory paper (rather a tutorial) for generalized conjugate gradient (CG) methods. The emphasis is on \understanding" the approach of the now rather sophisticated CG-type methods and beyond. Practical aspects like normalization and smoothing are discussed. Then the development of diierent types of methods with with their characteristic properties is presented. For a m...
